Scientists are particularly interested in Saturn's moon Titan because it's one of the few known moons with its own dense atmosphere. Titan's atmosphere is also thought to be very similar to what Earth's atmosphere was a long time ago. By learning about Titan, we'll learn about our own planet.

ESA's New Camera Follows Disintegration of a Comet

The European Space Agency (ESA) has used their new superconducting camera, SCAM, to view the continuing disintegration of Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3. In doing so, researchers have grabbed images of cometary fragments and even the interior of the comet itself.

Studying comets can help astrobiologists answer a number of important scientific questions. Some scientists believe that comet impacts may have flooded the Earth, creating our oceans and providing the water that makes life on our planet possible. Comets may have also seeded the early Earth with the precurors needed for the origin of life on our planet.
