Scientists are particularly interested in Saturn's moon Titan because it's one of the few known moons with its own dense atmosphere. Titan's atmosphere is also thought to be very similar to what Earth's atmosphere was a long time ago. By learning about Titan, we'll learn about our own planet.

Engineers Restart Hubble Camera

NASA engineers successfully activated the Advanced Camera for Surveys aboard the agency's Hubble Space Telescope. Engineers received indications on Monday, June 19, that power supply voltages were out of acceptable limits, causing the camera to stop functioning. On Thursday, June 29, engineers began uploading commands in order to restore the instrument to operational status.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been an invaluable tool for astrobiologists. Hubble has provided views of objects in Pluto's region of the solar system, which are ancient relics from over 4 billion years ago when our system formed. These objects can help us understand the formation of the planets, and help scientists estimate the number of habitable environments in the Universe. Hubble has also helped scientists identify planets around distant stars.
