Shuttle Launch Provides Fireworks
The Space Shuttle Discovery is on its way to the International Space Station (ISS) after lifting off at 2:37:55 p.m. EDT Tuesday from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla. Discovery's mission, STS-121, is the second in NASA's Return to Flight sequence and will deliver supplies and equipment to the ISS.
NASA's Space Shuttle fleet has played an important role in astrobiology research at NASA. Many experiments concerning the response of terrestrial life to conditions in space have been conducted aboard the Space Shuttles. The Shuttles are also a primary means of transporting astronauts to and from the International Space Station. Human missions aboard the International Space Station can tell scientists a great deal about the future of life on Earth and beyond.
