Exobiology Branch
NASA-Ames Research Center
Ted Bunch has over thirty years of research experience that has
mainly involved study of experimental and naturally shocked
materials, lunar samples, terrestrial mineralogy and petrology, and
meteorite and interplanetary dust (IDP) samples. The last ten years
has been devoted largely to the study of secondary alteration (aqueous
and thermal) of carbonaceous chondrites, IDPs, experimental shock
testing of carbonaceous survivability, and impact crater studies
(experimental and natural). He is a PI in NASA's Exobiology Program, a
co-investigator and science team leader on the Ames Aerogel Parametric
Testing Program and Ames cosmic dust collection projects that
include, among others, the ESA/MIR Mission (1995-6), in addition to
being the lead scientist for Exobiology's Long Duration Exposure
Facility studies. He is also developing hypervelocity impact techniques
for the Ames Vertical Gun impact experiments on meteorites, carbonaceous
materials, and aerogel particle collectors.
