Computational Chemistry Branch
NASA-Ames Research Center
Dr. Langhoff's research interests include studies of both molecular
structure and molecular spectroscopy using ab initio quantum
mechanical methods. The work has relevance to studies of
astrophysics, atmospheric chemistry, aerothermodynamics, and
combustion chemistry. His current research interests include the
determination of molecular opacity data bases for molecular species
such as SiO, TiO, and water, and the determination of theoretical
infrared spectra for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to assess their
role as carriers of the unidentified infrared and diffuse interstellar
bands. His current position is Chief of the Computational Chemistry
Branch. The research effort in the Branch complements well the
Astrobiology mission due to its unique capability of determining
molecular spectra, thermodynamic data, and reaction rates, especially
for processes not amenable to laboratory studies.
