Dr. Frank Shu received his Ph.D. (Astronomy) from Harvard, 1968. His
present position is Professor of Astronomy at UC Berkeley. Dr. Shu
received the Bok Prize from Harvard University in 1972. He was an
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow, 1972-74. Dr. Shu was awarded the
American Astronomical Society Warner Prize in 1977 and the Brouwer
Award in 1996. Dr. Shu served the American Astronomical Society as
Councilor, 1982-85; Vice-President, 1988-1991; and President, 1994-1996.
He was a Board Member of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific from
1983-89. Dr. Shu served on the US National Committee of the International
Astronomical Union, 1989-1996. He has served as a member of the National
Academy of Sciences from 1987 to the present, as well as the Academia
Sinica since 1990 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since
1992. He was a University of Maryland Distinguished Lecturer, 1990;
Phillips Lecturer, Haverford College, 1992; Selby Fellow, Australian
Academy of Sciences, 1992; and Oort Professor, Leiden University, 1996.
