Emily R. Morey-Holton

Gravitational Research Branch

NASA-Ames Research Center

Dr. Emily R. Morey-Holton is a NASA employee who joined the agency at Wallops Flight Facility and later transferred to Ames Research Center. Prior to NASA, she taught pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh and the Indiana University Medical Schools. She has been Principal Investigator in experiments on Russian unmanned biological satellites as well as the U. S. Shuttle flights (Spacelabs and middeck). Her laboratory developed a rodent model for simulating certain aspects of spaceflight that is used at laboratories around the world. Her research focuses on growth and development of the skeletal system as influenced by both increased (centrifuge) and decreased (spaceflight and rat model) gravitational loading as well as the readaptation to 1g. She has received numerous awards, including AIAA Jeffries Medical Research Award (with SLS 1 PIs), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, member of the West Virginia University Academy of Distinguished Alumni, president of the American Society of Gravitational and Space Biology, NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, NASA Special Achievement Award, and NASA-Ames Associate Fellowship.
