David Morrison

David Morrison is the Director of Space at NASA-Ames Research Center, where he manages basic and applied research programs in the space, life, and Earth sciences. Dr. Morrison received his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University, and until he joined NASA he was Professor of Astronomy at the University of Hawaii, where he also directed the 3-meter NASA Infrared Telescope Facility of Mauna Kea Observatory. Internationally known for his research on small bodies in the solar system, Dr. Morrison is the author of more than 120 technical papers and has published a dozen books. He is currently active as an Interdisciplinary Scientist on the Galileo mission, and he is the recent recipient of the Klumpke-Roberts Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific for contributions to science education as well as NASA Outstanding Leadership medals for contributions to the Galileo Mission and for dealing with the hazard of asteroid and comet impacts.
