David L. Peterson

David Peterson is currently chief of the Ecosystem Science and Technology Branch of the Earth Science Division of Ames Research Center. He joined Ames in 1966 to build a high enthalpy wind tunnel for testing heat shield materials for planetary entry probes. In 1976, he joined the Earth resources group at Ames to demonstrate how satellite data might be used by states in forest inventory and land management. He has conducted research in remote sensing analysis and instrumentation, ecosystem modeling, geographical information systems, and field studies of biological productivity and biogeochemical cycling. He is actively working to transfer this technology and knowledge to the public and private sectors.
